Located at the foothills of Kilimanjaro on the border with Tanzania, Amboseli National Park was established in 1968 as a nature reserve and declared a national park in 1974.

Characterized by boundless plains, it offers fairly sparse vegetation (mostly thorny shrubs, palm groves and papyrus-covered ponds), which facilitates the possibility of sightings of wild animals, including especially the famous "Big five": lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants and rhinos; as well as, of course, many others and a vast amount of birds, which in the period between October and January stop over at Amboseli, attracting birdwatching tourists from all over the world
